Soft dumplings with savoury mince

These delicious dumplings from Lethabo Kgadima make a scrumptious lunch or light dinner.

INGREDIENTS

Prep Time: 45 minutes (including rising time)
Cooking Time: 15 minutes.

110 ml warm milk
1 tsp (5 ml) sugar
1 tsp (5 ml) instant yeast
2 cups (500 ml) flour
1 tsp (5ml) salt
1 tbsp (15 ml) oil
2 cups (500 ml) cooked beef mince (season to suit your taste)
Black sesame seeds (optional)
Crunchy Chili Oil (optional)

METHOD

  1. In a 24 cm AMC Dome or large mixing bowl mix milk, sugar and yeast. Set aside for a few minutes to activate the yeast.
  2. After 5 minutes add flour, salt and oil.
  3. Knead your dough for 5 minutes, then cover and leave to rise for 40 minutes in a warm area.
  4. Once doubled in size, cut into 8 equal parts. Roll each eighth into a ball and then flatten.
  5. Add two tablespoons of mince to the middle of each flattened ball then pinch closed and sprinkle with black sesame seeds.
  6. Add 500ml water to your 24 cm Gourmet High. Heat over a medium temperature and bring to a simmer. Once bubbling, reduce heat.
  7. Grease an AMC 24 cm Steamer with oil and fit into your 24 cm Gourmet High. Ensure that the bottom of the steamer is not touching the boiling water.
  8. Place buns in the steamer and cover with the lid of the 24 cm Gourmet High. Reduce heat to the lowest temperature and steam for 15 mins until buns are puffed and cooked.
  9. Serve warm with crunchy chili oil and enjoy.

 

TIPS:
Crunchy Chili Oil is an infused oil condiment that usually contains crunchy bits of peppers, onions, garlic and chili.
